Nicky Brown
I am a mixed media artist and teacher of making beautiful things.
I create 3 dimensional nature based sculptural pieces from my home studio in Oxfordshire.
I specialise in working with beads and crepe paper but also use wire, thread, felt and more. I use a range of techniques such as jewellery making, crochet, embroidery and paper art. Wherever possible I re-purpose preloved materials and jewellery and really enjoy the process of taking things apart and considering how I can use them in a future work.
My work is inspired by the natural world as bringing the outside in is so good for the soul.
Teaching others to make beautiful things is my other love. Encouraging positive mental health, through the making something wonderful and in the company of others, is so important to me.
I have been fortunate to teach in schools, for charities, for private occasions and for National Craft Companies.
I have an artist firmly in my heart and a teacher's blood running through my veins.

I had a wonderful childhood growing up under African skies.
My family moved back to the UK where I graduated as a teacher, a career which has provided me with rich and diverse experiences.
Throughout it all I have loved being creative from interior decorating and paint effects to pottery, crochet, needlefelting, crepe paper flowers and jewellery making and I hold a Professional Diploma in sugarcraft. I have trained under the watchful eye of the paint effects guru Annie Sloan and have completed a number of interior decorating and painted furniture commissions.
They say "The apple doesn't fall far from the tree" and I take pride in the fact that my creativity comes from my father who was a Master Furniture Maker and a Woodwork Teacher Trainer.
It's all in the genes.
